America's Foreign Policy?

America's Foreign Policy:

America should do what is necessary for America. There comes point where diplomacy no longer works and only brute force prevails. When will Liberals, or rather, secular progressives realize this? As much as I hate to say, war is a necessary evil and when we have enemies that wish for nothing else, there is no alternative.

Question: How did America gain Independence? Answer: War. Question: How did America end slavery? Answer: Civil War. Unfortunately war exists and our enemies need to know that we are willing to go all out otherwise they have no reason to fear the Superpower of America.

Ah, another post!

War is a necessary evil, but how proactive should the U.S. be in this policy?

America should be as proacive as is necessary to secure America's security. In essence, whatever it takes to get it done. Why complicate matters with polemics.

Mr. Wills:

I am in complete agreement with you. However, the definition of what is necessary to secure our nation's sovereignty is often times less than clear.

I'm hardly being a polemic at this point. On the contrary, I agree with both you and Potomac. I'm merely questioning our decisions regarding what is necessary for our defense over the past 50 years.

How did African Americans gain civil rights? How did woman get the vote?

NOT through war. War is not always the answer. When will the convervatives, I mean the neo-cons realize that?

It is time to start talking with our enemies.

Dear Anonymous:

I see where you are going with your response. What you fail to realize is that the responses you pose in essence were gained through war. America's war for independence created the document (The Constitution of the United States of America) by which we enabled the 13, 14th, 15th, and 19th amendments. War has brought to us our Constitution and everything that resides in it.

Question: Did talking work with Hitler? Answer: No. Just one of the many examples of how appeasement does not work with an enemy that does not want it.

So to answer your comment, of course we do not want war but unfortunately it exists in the minds of our enemies, and we must fight fire with fire.

Lastly, do you really wish to hold talks with Iran a country that just hosted a convention denying the Holocaust?

So do you think that the US should always go to war when there seems to be reasons? Why not attack north korea for instance? Zimbabwe is another country with an anti-US government in where people are suffering. Do you think the US should attack them as well.

I also want to ask you the obvious question about Iraq. Do you think the invasion was right considering there was evidently no proof of WOMDs? It seems it has gotten so much worse in Iraq for the ordinary citzent...

Dear rasmussenanders:

I assure you that if you read what I said you wouldn't say what you have.

First, the U.S. should not go to war "when there seems to be reasons," but more specifically, when there seems to be reasons that concern United State's interests(i.e.military threat). Last I checked, Zimbabwe does not pose any immediate threat to the U.S. And as of right now, North Korea is not stupid enough to threaten the U.S. and if it does...

Second, with regards to WMD's, I hope you are aware that we did find traces of them, and who's to say that they were not moved out of Iraq before we intervened militarily. And do not let me forget, Saddam Hussein is also credited with the killings of more than 2 million people. Is that not a weapon of mass destruction.

Lastly, let me spare you the question of, "Why should the U.S. dictate what other countries do? We should worry about ourselves first, we are not the world police."

Should we have intervened in WWI when it was not even our war? Germany planned not to declare war on the U.S. Should we have intervened in WW2 against Germany? It was Japan that attacked us.
