“And They Now Eat Their Own”

As time draws closer for the presidential primaries in early 2008, attacks within political parties grow. Last night the Democrat national debate in Las Vegas, Nevada ensued. Barrack Obama, Hilary Clinton, and John Edwards threw out their usual dialogues. Each took their turn bashing on Republicans, past Republican Congressional decisions, and of course President Bush and his “failed” administration and the war in Iraq. Surprisingly however, those candidates took the time to lambaste each other.

One of the issues that was mentioned in the previous debate was that of illegal immigrant driver’s licenses being issued. It was hilarious how no candidate would completely acknowledge their view on the issue by dodging the question. Each would take their turn saying how the other was not commenting but then refusing to comment themselves. It was so horrible even Wolf Blitzer said, “It is a pretty straight forward question with a straight forward answer…yes or no."
Hilary spent some time refuting John Edwards’s earlier claims on some of her decisions and policies. She asked if he would refrain from, “Using the Republican play book.” Of course, we all know she does not use the Democrat play book, right?

Barrack was dogged by Hilary when it came to universal healthcare even though she has no better plan. I was surprised to not see Edwards full throttle on that issue since it is “dearest” to his heart, if you don’t count class warfare.

I loved how the candidates responded to the idea of picking Supreme Court justices. Every reply had some bash on President Bush and how he has made so many mistakes; then the obvious, “In my administration this would not happen.” All of the candidates say that President Bush is an under qualified president, however they hold no higher degrees (Yale undergraduate and Harvard M.B.A.) than he does. And more importantly, Bush sits in the Oval Office an none of them do (well, may be Hillary from 1992-2000).

Lastly, every Democrat had to mention that our troop surge in Iraq is failing. They provided information like, “This is the most casualties we have suffered so far in one year.” With that statistic they failed to mention how many more insurgents were killed, how violence has taken a halt in even the most war-torn provinces, and how hundreds of more institutions, schools, and other necessary building shave been constructed to make the country far more stable.

I do hope that the audience watching the debate realized how invalid, vapid, incoherent, and inadequate the rhetoric of the debate was. All we learned was that the Democrats are willing to eat their own and go whichever way the wind blows that day. There is no solid ground of facts which they stand on; in fact, they are unencumbered by the facts, choosing to live in a “fact free” zone while the security of America is at stake. They will say and do anything to gain applause and pander to the lowest common denominator. Is that who we really want running this country? Do we really want another Clinton cavorting in the Oval Office. They should all take a cue from Nicolas Sarkozy, who only last week spoke before a joint session of Congress and praised America as the greatest nation in all of recorded history and he added that the French owe a debt to America that can NEVER be repaid. Good God, he sounds more patriotic that any Dem I can think of!
